In 2018, Carol launched Tiddas in Business, self funding and running the program supporting First Nations women get started in business and obtain economic empowerment. The program is still running to date and has since supported over 226 First Nations female entrepreneurs.

In February 2023, Murawin was thrust into the unknown, having to experience one of the most challenging things that can happen to any company. Murawin’s co-founder and COO Greg McKenzie sadly passed away. As a family business this not only meant losing an integral part of the fabric of the business but the loss of a family member but his legacy lives on in Murawin, his family, collegues and the work we do.

As we celebrate 10 years of operations, we look both to the past and to the future, so we have launched a new brand identity, connecting us all to Country, our story and language, something Greg was deeply passionate about.

In August 2024 our CEO & Co-founder won the Supply Nation Indigenous Businesswoman of the Year award at the Supplier Diversity Awards dinner.

Both Murawin as a business, and Carol personally, have overcome so much in the last 2 years but have continued to grow, lead and create impact, realising the vision that both co-founders, Carol and Greg, had for Murawin.

We are overwhelmed with pride and excitement to see all Carol’s hard work, dedication and sheer resilience recognised by this prestigious award and we’d like to congratulate Carol and our whole team for the work that has been done across our 10 years of operation, as we look forward to the future!

Imbued with meaning and symbolism, the artwork tells the story of Murawin as a collective. It shows the impactful work we have done and continue to do as well as our co-founders Carol Vale and Greg McKenzie stories, their legacy, where we’ve been and importantly, where we’re going through the depiction of River Country.

The river cutting across the artwork is representative of Murawin as a whole, the work we do sitting, listening and yarning with community. These yarns and engagements shape the course of the river, both informed by the landscape whilst simultaneously changing it.

Along the banks of the river, we find representations of many aspects that make up Murawin. Our staff and the work we do, the family, our values, places of significance, our co-founders heritage and so much more.

We’re proud to share an important milestone in Murawin’s story and officially announce Rebecca McGuinness as Murawin’s new CEO!

As many of you know, Rebecca knows Murawin inside and out, having worked across the business for years, and as the daughter of Murawin’s Co-founders, stepping into this leadership role shaped by family, culture and long-term vision.

Carol will continue to play an integral role at Murawin as the Co-founder and ambassador of the business and key cultural and strategic advisor to Rebecca and the wider leadership team.

 As Murawin enters this next chapter, our commitment remains unchanged: delivering culturally grounded research, evaluation, engagement and place-based strategy and continuing to elevate how knowledge is shared through powerful storytelling and design.
